What is CSRD?
CSRD, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, is a regulation of the European Union that requires enterprises to mandatorily disclose environmental, social and governance (ESG) information and follow uniform reporting standards. Starting from 2024, CSRD will gradually be applied to over 50,000 enterprises, requiring them to submit standardized and auditable sustainability reports. Reports and data must comply with the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) and XBRL classification standards.
Which enterprises are covered by CSRD?
Eu enterprises ①Large enterprises (meeting the following two conditions: more than 500 employees, revenue more than 40 million euros, total assets more than 20 million euros); ② All listed companies (including small and medium-sized enterprises, except micro enterprises).
Non-eu enterprises ①Enterprises or their subsidiaries with an annual revenue of over 150 million euros in the European Union; ② Enterprises that issue securities or bonds in markets regulated by the European Union.
Indirect impact Non-eu enterprises in the supply chain (such as Chinese suppliers) may be required to provide ESG data to assist EU customers in compliance.
What is the relationship between CSRD and CSDDD?
CSRD focuses on “transparency” : compelling enterprises to disclose key data such as carbon emissions and biodiversity. CSDDD emphasizes “action” : It requires enterprises to identify supply chain risks and formulate rectification plans.
The data disclosed by CSRD provides a basis for the risk assessment of CSDDD, and the implementation effect of CSDDD is made transparent to the stakeholders through CSRD.
What difficulties do enterprises face in achieving CSRD compliance?
Difficulty in ESG data penetration
CSRD requires traceability Scope 3 carbon emissions; Compliance reports need to cover ESG data throughout the entire value chain, involving a wide range and high granularity. The collection process is time-consuming, laborious and prone to errors.
